Fight night at Spot Bar

STEUBENVILLE?- The Ohio Valley MMA?Heavyweight Championship Amateur Championship will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Spot Bar. Twelve amateur cage fights are on tap.

Seats are $400 for VIP?table, $40 for ringside and $20 for general admission.

W&J baseball season ended

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team dropped a 6-2 decision to two-time defending Division II national champion Marietta at Art Nehf Field Saturday afternoon in an NCAA Division III Mideast Regional elimination game.

The Presidents made it to that game thanks to an 11-8 win over Thomas More in 15 innings, the longest game in school history.

Junior righthander Eddie Nogay, a Weirton Madonna graduate, upped his career record to 22-1 (school-record 12 wins this spring) after firing the final five innings in relief, allowing one earned run on one hit, while striking out six.

OVAC to hold showcase

WHEELING - The Ohio Valley Athletic Conference will hold its annual baseball media day and player showcase at 5 p.m. on May 28 at the I-470 Youth Sports Complex.

All Ohio and West Virginia All-Star participants are required to attend for pictures.

Players in grades 10-12 from any OVAC school may participate in the player showcase. According to the OVAC, college coaches will be in attendance to rate all participants on running, fielding, throwing, catching and pitching. Cost of the showcase is $10 for all non-all star participants. The money raised from the showcase will go to the baseball scholarship fund.

Big Red boosters to meet

STEUBENVILLE - The Big Red Boosters Club will meet at 6 p.m. today at the high school conference room. The Night at the Races has been rescheduled for June 8 at the Spot Bar.

DeVenanzio records an ace

RICHMOND - Italo DeVenanzio recorded a hole-in-one at Blackmoor Golf Course. The Wellsburg resident used an 8-iron on the par 3, 12th hole. The shot was witnessed by Vito Cicchirillo and Virlen West.

Carducci records an ace

RICHMOND - Robert Carducci recorded a hole-in-one at Blackmoor Golf Course. The Steubenville resident used a 5-iron on the 165-yard par 3, 15th hole. The shot was witnessed by David Day and James Slater.

Andriano records an ace

HOPEDALE - John Andriano recorded a hole-in-one at Castle Shannon Golf Course. He used a 9-wood on the 135-yard par 3 ninth hole. The shot was witnessed by Matt Matello, Joe Bracone and Nino Drexler.
