May brought the opening show for the Steubenville Saddle Club's 2013 season with sunny skies and pleasant temperatures to welcome what was a "terrific turnout" of participants ready to show their horses in 41 classes on the show bill.
And that made Debbie Grimes, club president, a happy club president.
Thanks to a cooperative Mother Nature and because of a facility that combines friendship, fun and food, it had the makings for a fine start to the show season that kicked off May 5 at the club grounds located on state Route 152 north, Richmond, according to Grimes.

Confirming that was a comment from Elaine Berteotti of the Pittsburgh area, who told me she's been a faithful attendee at the club's show for the past four years and that it's her favorite - the people are nice, the shows are nice and the grounds are nice, she said.
Upcoming shows include June 30, July 14 and Sept. 1.
Membership in the club is open to anyone. An annual membership for a family is $25; $15 for an individual; and $10 for a youth.
For 2013 memberships, checks can be made payable to the Steubenville Saddle Club and mailed to SCC, P.O. Box 431, Richmond, OH 43944. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the club grounds. The club is in its 66th year.
