Serbian chicken blasts set to

begin Wednesday at grounds

WEIRTON?- The Serbian Men's Club will kick off their annual summer chicken blast Wednesday, and the event will be held every Wednesday through Aug. 28 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds located on Kings Creek Road.

Those calling between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. are guaranteed a whole chicken. Those interested in pre-ordering can call (304) 748-9866.

Pick-up for pre-ordered chickens will be available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Take-out and Eat-in will be available from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays.

A whole chicken will cost $6.75.

Beverages also will be available for purchase, and the Serbian Women's Club will be selling fresh-cooked corn on the cob and homemade haluski.

The annual event is the organization's fundraiser.

Basketball camp announced

WEIRTON - The 2013 George Vargo Basketball Camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 11-14 at Madonna High School.

Boys and girls in third through eighth grade will learn basic and advanced basketball skills from Ohio Valley coaches and players. It is under the direction of George Vargo, Madonna High boys head coach.

The camp includes a T-shirt and registration is limited to the first 75 children who apply.

The cost is $60 per child or $100 per family. Checks can be made payable to Madonna Allsports and sent to George Vargo, 533 N. 10th St., Weirton, WV 26062.

Vacation Bible school set

WELLSBURG - Wellsburg First Church of God will be "Keepin' In Step with the Spirit" with the GoFishGuys during its vacation Bible school, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 10-14.

Library holding summer programs

AVELLA, Pa. - The Avella Public Library will hold its summer reading program, "Dig Into Reading," from 10:30 a.m. to noon Wednesdays in July.

All ages are welcome, and the library is accepting donations of snacks, beverages and craft supplies toward the program. To register or make a donation, call (724) 587-5688.

Library officials asked those with overdue items return them by May 30 or risk not receiving the new, county-wide patron card.

The library can't afford to replace overdue items.

Insurance forum scheduled

WEIRTON - The Weirton Chapter of the Office Managers Association of Healthcare Providers Inc. will sponsor the seventh annual Insurance Forum at noon June 21 at the Weirton Medical Center located at 601 Colliers Way.

A light lunch will be provided. Each participating company will have an informational booth and will present a 15-minute update on their product. Company representatives will be available for question-and-answer sessions.

The cost is $15 per person for non-members. A membership fee is $75 per year.

Those companies participating include Molina, Health Assurance, Carelink, Health Plan of the Upper Ohio Valley, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare Community, UPMC Health Plan, Molina West Virginia and United Healthcare.
