BETHANY - The GFWC WV Bethany Woman's Club closed its season with a program on safety, emergency and what to do in a disaster.
President Helen Moren presided over the meeting, which featured Bob Fowler, Brooke County emergency management and ambulance director, as guest speaker.
Fowler spoke about the Brooke County Community Emergency Response Team, a group of volunteers trained to help out with disaster relief.
Moren spoke on the In Case of Emergency, Yellow Dot and Vial of Life programs.
Members donated healthy snacks to Boatsie's Boxes and are collecting items for the Energy Express summer reading program, which is sponsored by West Virginia University Extension Service.
Summer projects will include making little dresses for Africa, Operation Smile and collecting socks for the YWCA domestic violence program.
In keeping with the Brooke-Hancock Relay for Life, purple bows and a flag were displayed in the community. The group planted flowers around town and at the veterans monument.
