WINTERSVILLE - It's three weeks and counting until the 18th-annual Thunder in the Ville festival will get under way.

Mayor Bob Gale reminded council members Thursday evening that the festival will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. June 28 and noon to 10 p.m. June 29 at Treasure Island Flea Market. Opening ceremonies will be at 5:15 p.m. on June 28 with the national anthem performed by Jefferson County Commissioner Thomas Graham and a speech from Gale.

The band Almost Famous will perform from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. June 28 with Easy Street starting at 6:30 p.m. June 29. Paul Roe with Silver Eagle Band will finish the evening June 29. A number of local dance groups will perform that day as well, Gale noted.

The fifth-annual Street Dreams Rod and Custom Car Show is scheduled during the festival and will begin at 6 p.m. June 29. The cruise will feature street rods, classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars and custom cars.

Food vendors for the event will include fare such as hot dogs, sloppy joes, ice cream and steak hoagies, as well as Mexican and oriental foods. Also, train rides will be available for a fee during the festival.

The fireworks show, provided by American Fireworks, will begin at 10 p.m. June 29.

In other news, Village Administrator Walt Ziemba briefed council on a construction update for Phase 1 of the waste water treatment plant.

"The project has slowed down a little bit now as the electricians are working and are waiting on equipment, which is expected to arrive at the end of the month," he explained. "We should receive another pay request by the first of the week. The project is almost at 40 percent complete and we are moving slightly ahead of schedule."

Phase 1 of the project will include headwords, new screening, grit and grease removal; new grit classifier building; new influent and effluent flow monitoring; new aerobic digester tank; new scum pump station; replace aeration diffusers; new belt filter press; rehab clarifiers; geodesic dome clarifier covers; UV disinfection system; update electrical system; add two new blowers; raise flow EQ tank wall; and asphalt resurfacing. Phase 2 of the project will focus on updating the lift stations with computer capability lines and remote monitoring system.

In other business:

The village's annual spring clean-up days will continue the next three Mondays in June. If a resident's garbage is collected on Wednesday, the clean-up day will be Monday; those with a Thursday collection will have their clean-up day on June 17; and those with a Friday collection will have their clean-up day on June 24. No tires or mattresses can be collected.

Ziemba mentioned that the Crossroads Christian Church group work camp will be working in the village and surrounding areas July 21 through July 27.

Gale announced that the Fourth of July parade will be held at 11 a.m. July 4 beginning at Riesbeck's and traveling to Kroger. Lineup will begin at 9 a.m. For information, contact Marci Zangrando at (740) 424-5419 or wintersvillespecialevents@yahoo.com.

The magistrate, police and code enforcement officer reports for May were presented.

The fourth tank will travel through the village around 8 a.m. Sunday. The remaining two tanks, which are being transported from a storage area on the Ohio River to Hopedale, are scheduled to be moved June 16 and June 23, Ziemba added.

Ziemba announced that the village's consumer confidence report can be viewed online at www.wintersville.net beginning June 29. Click on CCR report to view, he noted.
