WINTERSVILLE - After a year hiatus, the Wintersville Fourth of July Parade is back in action.

According to village special events committee President Marci Zangrando, the parade will begin at 11 a.m. on July 4 at Riesbeck's Food Market.

"We will start lining everyone up around 9 a.m. in the parking lot at Riesbeck's," she explained. "The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and travel down Main Street through the village and end at Kroger."

Mayor Bob Gale hopes to see many area residents line Main Street to view the parade.

"It's a great way to start off the day of celebrating America's birthday," he said. "We hope to see many people participating from the village, and many people from Wintersville and surrounding areas along the route enjoying the parade."

This year's parade will be in memory of Dee Martin, former special events committee president, who died last June.

"She loved being part of this community," Zangrando stated. "She lived for community activity. She used to drive my uncle (Gale) crazy with new ideas. So this parade will be in her honor."

Parade entries are being accepted, she noted. Past participants have included dance teams, 4-H groups, high school bands, motorcycle groups, high school football teams, military organizations, churches, fire departments, village and county elected officials and village businesses.

"We're really excited to get back into the swing of things and bring this parade back to the village," Zangrando added. "Community members look forward to this every year so we hope to see them again this year."

The parade is sponsored by the Wintersville Special Events Committee. For information, contact Zangrando at (740) 424-5419 or go online at wintersvillespecialevents@yahoo.com.
