Women changing meeting time

WELLSBURG - Brooke County Democratic Women have changed their meeting night to Wednesday due to the West Virginia Democratic Women hosting the National Democratic Women's annual meeting Wednesday through Sunday in Charleston.

This year a new national president will be elected with West Virginia's Carye Blaney the top nominee for the office.

Club membership remains open for the 2013-14 year to any Democratic women 18 or older.

'Faith, Flag, Freedoms' rally scheduled

WINTERSVILLE, Ohio - The Eastern Ohio Concerned Citizens, Steubenville for Liberty and American Patriot Council Washington/Jefferson/Hancock Chapter will host a rally, "Defending Our Faith, Flag and Freedoms," from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Treasure Island Flea Market.

Featured speakers include Dr. Anton Salinski, Toni Blake, Eric Jack, Lynne Modranski, the Rev. Hombre Liggett and Dave Daubenmire. Modranski will provide music.

Hypnotist to perform

WEIRTON - Hypnotist Jason Christopher will perform his hypnotism and comedy show at 8 p.m. June 28 at the Weirton Moose Lodge 688 located at 3963-67 Main St.

Only those who volunteer will become part of the show.

"We never force anyone to volunteer," said Christopher.

A limited number of tickets are available at $10 each. To purchase tickets, visit the lodge after 3 p.m. or call (304) 748-4707.

The show benefits the lodge and Moose Charities.

Friends of Madonna to hold picnic

WEIRTON - The Friends of Madonna picnic will be held from noon to 10 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Madonna High School grounds located at 150 Michael Way.

Concessions open at noon; local dance studios will perform from noon to 4 p.m.; games, including Principal Steve Grasser's dunk booth, will be available from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Disc Jockey Eric Hilty will entertain from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; over/under will be available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; the Joseph Sisters will perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and the drawing will be held at 9 p.m.

Seniors travel to Amish country

BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. - Burgettstown Senior Travel will host a trip to Lancaster County's Amish communities Aug. 21-22.

The trip includes trips to Hershey Farm, Rockvale Square Outlets and Kitchen Kettle Village and performance of "Noah: The Musical" at Sight and Sound Ministries Millennium Theatre.

Finton, Marsh named to dean's list

ALLIANCE, Ohio - Meghan Finton and Harley Marsh, both of Weirton, have been named to the dean's list for the spring 2013 semester at the University of Mount Union.

To be eligible for Dean's List, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours of traditionally graded coursework while achieving a grade point average of 3.550 or better with no grade below a B.
