Society set to

hold meeting

ELDERSVILLE, Pa. - The Jefferson Township Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday in the White Church located at 12 Fire Road, across from the Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Guest speaker Ben Strain will discuss the history of Greenspring Farm, patent date of 1789, located in Jefferson Township at Eldersville and Strope roads. He started the research on the History of Greenspring Farm in the winter of 1998.

The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will follow the meeting.

The historical society will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 21-22. Those wanting to donate items may bring them to the meeting or any weekday before the sale starts. Clothing and shoes will not be accepted. To volunteer or make a donation, call (724) 947-9111.

Marler named to

dean's list

PITTSBURGH - Adrienne Marler, the daughter of Scott and Ann-Frances Marler of Burgettstown, was named to the University of Pittsburgh's Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences dean's list with a 3.9 grade point average for the 2013 spring term.

Marler, a 2009 Burgettstown High School graduate, is majoring in anthropology and is a pre-medicine student. She has participated in the university's high school science tutoring program, Mobile Science Lab and public health department.

Marler also has received a Brackenridge Summer Research Fellowship, which supports undergraduate Honors College students conducting independent research projects.

She founded Students for Healers, which brings student companionship to patients and raises funds for the hospital library; is a MEDLife board member; and a Gamma Sigma Sigma charter officer.

She plans to apply to medical school in the fall to study orthopaedic surgery.

Country Friends

to hold dance

COLLIERS - The Country Friends will host the Stone Street Station Saturday at the Memorial Hall located on Old Police Lodge Road. The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance begins at 7 p.m.

Country Friends hold covered-dish dinners and open mic nights every Monday and Friday. Doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m.

Church to hold

Bible school

PARIS, Pa. - The Paris Presbyterian Church will hold vacation Bible School from 8:45 a.m. to noon June 24-28 with the theme "God's Garden" at the church located on Steubenville Pike.

A final celebration will be3 held during worship at 10 a.m. June 30. All children aged through through the sixth grade are eligible. The event will include Bible study, music, crafts and snacks.

Pulice named to

dean's list

AKRON, Ohio - Robert Pulice of Weirton, made the University of Akron's dean's list for the spring semester. Pulice is majoring in organizational supervision.
