Church to hold Bible school

FOLLANSBEE - Hooverson Heights Nazarene Church at Second Street and Lee Road will hold a vacation Bible school from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

It's open to ages 5-13, and participants are encouraged to bring a friend.

Fantasy film to be screened

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing Disney's "Oz the Great and Powerful," rated PG, at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Crocheting group to meet

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library's Crocheting Group will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The group is for adult beginners through experts. Participants should bring their own supplies and projects. If they need help, someone will be available to assist or instruct them.

Church to hold lasagna dinner

WEIRTON - St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Three Springs Drive will hold a lasagna dinner from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 21.

The cost is $8 for adults and teens and $4 for children 12 and under. The meal includes lasagna, salad, Italian bread and tea or coffee.

Soft drinks or water will be available for $1 each.

Library to hold cooking class

WELLSBURG - Nora Bell will lead a summer fun cooking class at 11 a.m. June 22 at the Brooke County Public Library.

Free family event to be held

WELLSBURG - The Wellsburg Area Ministerium is hosting The Community Celebrates, an event with free food, activities and live entertainment, June 21-23 at Wellsburg's Central Park at 17th and Charles streets.

The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. June 21 and 22, with free dinner offered for all; and at 11 a.m. on June 23 beginning with a community worship service followed by free lunch.

There also will be a variety of activities, including a chance to sink a community leader in a dunk tank.

The Wellsburg Area Ministerium is made up of clergy and leaders of several Wellsburg area churches and formed to address physical and spiritual needs of community members.

Soccer boosters

set to meet

WEIRTON - The Weir High School Soccer Boosters will hold a meeting at 5:30 p.m. June 24 outside the school gymnasium.

Driving course offered for seniors

WELLSBURG - The Brooke-Hancock-Ohio-Marshall Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will sponsor an AARP Safe Driving class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 26 and 27 at the Brooke County Public Library.

Taught by Mel Vorhees, the class is geared toward mature adults who may or may not be experiencing problems with diminishing vision, hearing and reaction time.

Rules of the road are reviewed along with safe driving techniques. Most insurance agencies offer a discount on vehicle insurance premiums to those who have completed the two-day course.

There is a $12 fee for AARP members and $14 fee per non-members. The fee, which covers materials, must be paid prior to attending.

Kiwanis Club to hold barbecue

WELLSBURG - The Kiwanis Club of Wellsburg will hold its annual barbecue chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 27 at the Wellsburg Fire Station on 12th Street.

Meals include one-half chicken, baked potato, apple sauce, roll and dessert and are served in take-out containers. The cost is $8.
