WEIRTON - West Liberty University's Organizational Leadership and Administration degree program will debut in Weirton this fall.

Beginning Aug. 22, classes will be offered Thursdays at West Virginia Northern Community College's Weirton campus. Classes will meet weekly from 6-10 p.m., though class time will be supplemented with an online component.

Tom Michaud, dean of the School of Professional Studies at West Liberty, told members of the Rotary Club of Weirton Wednesday the bachelor's degree program is geared to adults looking to complete a degree program or otherwise improve their circumstances.

Students join the program and then move through the entire 36 semester hour program with the same classmates, one course at a time.

Those who sign up would be graduation eligible in April 2015, he said.

"It's filling a need, answering a desire ...for adult citizens in the Ohio Valley," Michaud said, adding the degree program is "streamlined, accelerated." Candidates should be at least age 23 and interested in finishing a bachelor's degree, with at least 60 credit hours on their transcript and a 2.0 grade point average in previous college work.

Also addressing the group was Bob Barnett, author of "Growing Up in the Last Small Town: A West Virginia Memoir."

The Rotarians meet each Wednesday at noon at Williams Country Club.
