STEUBENVILLE - Two-out hits are mandatory in baseball and Steubenville Post 33 got its fair share in Wednesday's 11-10 victory over Richmond Post 740 at Vaccaro Field.
Post 33 had six of them in a five-run third inning and then tacked on two more in the six-run sixth inning in raising its record to 13-2.
"Offensively, we were very pleased with the way we hit the ball," said Richmond coach Sam Davis. "Even as crazy as the game was, with that many runs scored, the difference in the game was two-out RBIs. So many times in baseball, that's what it amounts to."
SAFE AT HOME — Steubenville Post 33’s Jimmy Panella is safe at home as Richmond Post 740 catcher Sammy Orr takes the throw during Wednesday’s 11-10 win by Post 33 at Vaccaro Field.

Steubenville loaded the sacks in the bottom of the sixth when John Linn singled, Aleks Porreca was hit by a pitch and Lucas Herrington walked.
One out later, Bryan Pierro walked for a run and Alex Young followed with a sacrifice fly on a nice defensive play by Post 740 right fielder Josh Pasek.
Brenton Colabella was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Jim Panella followed with a two-RBI single.
Pat Pizzoferrato ripped a double that scored Panella and it was 11-9.
"Even though we had two big innings, we're not swinging the bats real well right now," said Post 33 coach Don Young. "We hung in there and did a better job than we did last night (in a 7-4 loss to Toronto).
"We hit the ball well with two outs and Murph (Chris Murphy) didn't let it get away and that was a big thing for us, too."
Post 740 scored three times in the top of the first inning. Pasek walked, Nolan Marcus was hit by a pitch and Sammy Orr's double scored them both and Alec Jones' single plated Orr. After one in the fourth on Marcus' single to score Wise, Richmond totaled five runs in the fifth.
Jones doubled and scored on Kuntz's single.
Then came Richmond's two-out damage.
Tanner Evans singled, Wise singled and Pasek doubled. Marcus was walked to load the sacks and Young replaced Murphy on the bump.
Orr walked for a run and Storm Mohn followed with a single to score two before Young got out of the inning.
"It was one of those games," said Davis. "They struggled a little bit throwing strikes, too. Not quite as many in one inning as we did, but they took advantage of it.
"They made some great plays, as did our kids. We battled. We take a lot of positives from the game. We have to keep working on throwing strikes."
Steve Mihalyo started the third with a single. Two outs later, Pierro singled, Young doubled to score two, Colabella singled to plate Young, Panella singled, Pizzoferrato singled to score Colabella and Linn's base knock brought in Panella.
"You have to play every night because the other team is good, too," said Young. "Look at the guys they have playing for them and that's a pretty good team.
"We just have to keep working on getting better every day."
