‘Soul Cuisine’ on the menu at Saturday’s Taste of Quinn

If you're looking for a unique dining experience and want to help worthy projects in the process, the organizers of the annual Taste of Quinn would appreciate your appetite and presence.

On Saturday at Quinn Memorial AME Church located at 515 North St., Steubenville, beginning at 4 p.m., area residents can savor a variety of African-American soul cuisine.

Favorite dishes prepared by Quinn cooks will run the gamut from glazed ham, sweet potatoes, lemon pepper garlic chicken, potato salad, fried chicken, ribs, green beans, collard greens, turkey and all the trimmings, beef brisket, exotic salads, macaroni and cheese and an array of desserts.

This is an event sponsored by the Quinn Memorial AME Church Lay Organization and is open to the public with tickets available for a $15 donation.

The event will have a Hawaiian theme.

Lay organization members preparing for the feast are Patricia Fletcher, president; Soundra Palmer, vice president; Dolores Young, treasurer; Jacqueline Gibson, parliamentarian; Mattie Patterson, activity chairperson; Lisa Thomas, secretary; and Marion Young.

Mary and Bill Collins are in charge of the array of desserts with assistance from Betty Simpson, wife of the church's pastor, the Rev. Charles Simpson.

Fletcher, originator of the idea for Taste of Quinn, has said in the past the event has been successful and has drawn a diversified crowd for a relaxing outing minus any program, speeches or awards - just good food, good friends and good fellowship.

There also will be mystery boxes available for $15 and primarily containing jewelry.

Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships, educational seminars, and delegates to conference to name a few causes.
