Serbian Men's Club holding
chicken blasts every Wednesday
WEIRTON?- The Serbian Men's Club will hold a chicken blast every Wednesday through Aug. 28 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds located on Kings Creek Road.
Those pre-ordering a chicken between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. are guaranteed a whole chicken. Pick-up for pre-ordered chickens will be available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.Take-out and eat-in will be available from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. A whole chicken will cost $6.75. Beverages also will be available for purchase, and the Serbian Women's Club will be selling fresh-cooked corn on the cob and homemade haluski. The annual event is the organization's fundraiser. Hypnotist to perform
WEIRTON - Hypnotist Jason Christopher will perform his hypnotism and comedy show at 8 p.m. June 28 at the Weirton Moose Lodge 688 located at 3963-67 Main St.
Only those who volunteer will become part of the show. A limited number of tickets are available at $10 each. To purchase tickets, visit the lodge after 3 p.m. or call (304) 748-4707.

Volunteer zombies needed
MCDONALD, Pa. - Urban Assault Paintball is hosting zombie nights from 7 p.m. to midnight June 29, July 27, Aug. 31, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 at its facility located at 217 Laurel Hill Road.

Friends of Madonna to hold picnic
WEIRTON - The Friends of Madonna picnic will be held from noon to 10 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Madonna High School grounds located at 150 Michael Way.
Concessions open at noon; local dance studios will perform from noon to 4 p.m.; games, including Principal Steve Grasser's dunk booth, will be available from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Disc Jockey Eric Hilty will entertain from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; over/under will be available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; the Joseph Sisters will perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and the drawing will be held at 9 p.m.

Free reading instruction offered
WEIRTON - The churches of the Brooke-Hancock Episcopal Ministries will be offering a free summer program aimed at helping children in second through fourth grades with difficulties reading.
The program will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 13-17 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Three Springs Drive through an initiative begun by the West Virginia Episcopal Diocese.
Titled "Roaring into Reading," the program will have a jungle theme, with activities geared toward each age group.

Library holding contest
MCDONALD, Pa. - The Heritage Public Library will hold a Civil War re-enactment Aug. 31 and is holding a "Name-the-Event" contest.
The prize is a private screening of "Lincoln" for 20 people in the new community room.

Class of '63 planning 50-year reunion
WELLSBURG - The Wellsburg High School Class of 1963 is planning its 50-year reunion for September.

Church awards scholarship
WEIRTON - The Cove Presbyterian Church's Endowment Committee awarded Chad Pickens Scholarships to Lauren Rosnick, Justin Taflan and Allison Viakley.
The late Dolores and Clark Pickens established the scholarship in memory of their son, who died as a high school student.
The committee also awarded Angeline Smith the Hamill Scholarship. The scholarship was established by the Hamill family to honor former teacher Helen Hamill.
Smith named to achievement list
ADRIAN, Mich. - Deborah Smith of Weirton was named to the Sienna Heights University academic achievement list for the 2013 winter semester.
To make the lists, students must achieve a minimum 3.5 grade point average. The academic achievement list is for part-time students with at least six and no more than 11 credit hours.
