NEWELL - A scaled-back Clay Festival will take place Friday and Saturday at Clarke Field.
Festival times are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, said Mike Nixon, president of the Newell Area Civic Council, which sponsors the annual event.
The Clay Festival, reorganized in 1994, is held each year to celebrate Hancock County's heritage with clay industries such as the potteries and brickyards, he said.
There will be no rides this year, Nixon said, but there will be food and drink concessions and live entertainment both nights.
Friday's entertainment will be disc jockey Lonnie Boyles from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the Lazy River Band at 7 p.m. Saturday's entertainment will consist of a jam session with several bands, Nixon said.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Reserves will have activities for children, he said.
Festival-goers should bring lawn chairs.
