FOLLANSBEE - The 59th Donofrio, Donofe and Dunope family reunion was held on June 30 at the Follansbee Park Community House.
This year's theme was "Teddy Bears" with the motto "Our Family is 'Beary' Awesome." Chair Melanie Donofe welcomed everyone and led the group in prayers.
A covered-dish dinner was held with 10 families and 30 people attending from West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland.
Teddy bears donated during the 59th Donofrio, Donofe and Dunope family reunion were distributed to area children in crisis through the Brooke County Ambulance Squad in Wellsburg. After dinner the group colored teddy bears and various small stuffed animals. Family members brought bears and other stuffed animals to donate to area children. The animals were given to the Brooke County Ambulance Squad in Wellsburg and to the Comfort House-Hancock County Child Advocacy Center in Weirton.
Everyone participated in the "Name the Famous Bear Contest." Guest Kyleigh Fox received a teddy bear cookie jar for naming 17 of 20 bears. Cathy Feryus and Suzee Talerico earned bear prizes for naming 14 of the famous bears. A guessing jar filled with gummi bears was won by Dante Talerico.
The group sang "Happy Birthday" to Jeana Talerico, celebrating her 10th birthday, and Margaret Puzzuole, celebrating her 95th birthday.
A basket auction was held as a fundraiser. Timmy Meyers won two teddy bear baskets; Jean Talerico won a chocolate basket; Pauline Filiano won a bear-themed snack foods basket; Paige Donofe won a bear-themed picnic supplies basket; and Marian Gugala won a teddy bear-themed sun and swim basket.
Mary Ann Dunope, Gerry Donofe and Kevin Sample won door prizes.
Photo albums and group photos from past reunions and family tree books were on display for everyone to view.
Plans for the 60th reunion were discussed. The event will be held next summer.
