Tennis clinic to be held

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Tri-State Tennis Association is offering a free beginner's tennis clinic from 9 a.m. to noon for those ages 9-141 at New Cumberland City Park. The clinic will include basic instruction of stroke techniques as well as footwork drills and games. Rackets will be provided if a child does not have one.

Water will be provided as well but you may also want to bring your own drink. Instruction will be taught by Tammi Brown and a group of volunteers from Tri-State Tennis Association. Brown is a USPTA certified teaching professional with 20 years experience.

The goal of this clinic is to promote tennis in the Tri-State area. For information, call (304) 224-8298.

Volleyball meeting to be held

STEUBENVILLE?- Girls interested in playing volleyball at Catholic Central, there will be a meeting at 10 a.m. Monday in the gym. Be prepared to condition after the meeting.

St. John camp slated

BELLAIRE The annual St. John Central Basketball Camp will be held July 22-25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school gym in Bellaire.

The camp will be under the direction of Fighting Irish head hoop coaches Kevin Lahna and Bubba Kapral and their respective staffs. The camp is open to boys and girls entering first through eighth grades.

The camp will focus on the fundamentals of the game, while also featuring various competitions and games. Several guest speakers are on tap.

Each camper will get a camp t-shirt and green basketball. Daily door prizes will also be featured. Campers are urged to bring a lunch or refreshments as refrigeration will be provided.

Cost is $35. Each additional family member is $25.

Adults sought for softball benefit

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee Softball League seeks players for an adult co-ed softball tournament July 27 to benefit the Barretts, an Oklahoma family who lost their home in the recent tornado.

A cash prize will be awarded based on the number of teams that sign up. The entry fee is $100.

The game was inspired by ongoing efforts by Vito's 2 and the Follansbee Chamber of Commerce to help the family.

Mayor's 5K run set

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee Mayor's 5K Run-Walk, a Follansbee Community Days event, will return Thursday at a new location, Highland Hills, and has become part of the Grand Prix Series sponsored by the Health Plan, Ohio Valley Runners' and Walkers' Club and CentreTown Fitness.

The run will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the tennis and basketball courts on Highland Hills Drive and end there. The regisration fee is $20 and forms can be obtained at the Follansbee City Building or online at grandprix.healthplan.org.

Awards will go to the top three men and women in each of four age categories for walking and running.

Pizzoferrato game to be held

MINGO JUNCTION - The eighth-annual Brian Pizzoferrato Memorial Baseball Game will be held at noon on July 27 at John Muth Field. This game pits former Mingo High School baseball players against former Steubenville Catholic Central players. All proceeds go to Brian's son Ronnie.

DiCarlo to host softball clinic

STEUBENVILLE?- Catholic Central varsty softball coach Jim DiCarlo will hold a free softball clinic Tuesday though Thursday for girls going into grades 4-6 at Bishop Mussio Elementary.

The clinic will be held at the high school softball field.
