Brooke County Library set

to show Hoffman film today

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the PG-13-rated film "Quartet," at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Directed by Oscar-winning actor Dustin Hoffman, it centers on four opera singers preparing for the annual Verdi Gala.

Call (304) 737-1551 to reserve a seat and popcorn for the free screening.

Children's knitting group to meet

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Library's Kid's Knitting Group will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 11.

Children in third grade or higher can learn to knit with help from instructor Nora Bell. They should bring yarn and needles or loom to start creating.

Library to show fantasy film

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the PG-rated animated film, "Escape from Planet Earth," at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The 3-D animated family features the voice of Brendan Fraser as astronaut Scorch Supernova, who becomes a hero to the blue alien population of the planet Baab.

Church hosting Christian musician

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio - The Emmanuel Baptist Church will host contemporary Christian guitarist and vocalist from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the church located at 50470 National Road.

The event also will include an open mic. A love offering will be taken.

Trail station holding fleatique

MCDONALD, Pa. - The McDonald Trail Station will hold the annual fleatique and flea market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 27 at the station.

All vendors, including food and craft vendors and those holding yard sales, are welcome. The deadline for signing up is July 23 and set up begins at 8 a.m. July 27. Applications are available at the Heritage Library, First Commonwealth Bank or by contacting Sandi Albertini at (724) 926-9137 or slalbertini@verizon.net.

Car show set for Aug. 10

FLORENCE, Pa. - The 14th-annual Covered Bridge Car Show will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at Hanover Township Park located on Old Steubenville Pike.

Registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The registration fee is $8, including a chance for a door prize, and dash plaques will be distributed.

The judged event includes 60 trophies and 10 best of show trophies. The show also will include door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, refreshments, a model show and music by Disc Jockey Charlie Mitchell.

The event benefits the park.

The rain date is Aug. 17.

General admission is free to the public.

Photos sought for new restaurant

WELLSBURG - The owners of Legends, an upcoming new restaurant to open at the former Wellsburg American Legion headquarters, are seeking photos of historically significant people and businesses from throughout the Northern Panhandle to be displayed at the restaurant.

Photos of past West Virginia governors and 65 Medal of Honor recipients from West Virginia have been secured for the new business at 735 Charles St.
