Soccer referee clinic scheduled

STEUBENVILLE - The Jefferson County Soccer Officials Association will offer a 25-hour course at Eastern Gateway Community College to license adults as high school soccer officials. Applicants must be 18 years of age and be a high school graduate or have a GED. Current Grade 8 USSF soccer officials need only take 10 of the 25 hours.

The course commences in late July, will be held on three Saturdays and includes an exam and five hours field training. The course is regulated by the Ohio High School Athletic Association. The season begins Aug. 17 and the licensee will be able to referee games immediately.

Cheer tryouts to be held

NEW MANCHESTER - Oak Glen Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade cheerleading tryouts will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 12-13. Physicals will need to be completed and turned in Aug. 12 in order to tryout.

Victory Express filling spots

WASHINGTON, Pa - The Victory Express Soccer Club is looking to fill four spots on the Elite U-12 boys classic soccer team. Practices are held locally twice a week with travel required for games. The fee is $500 after rebate.

Big Red ad deadline approaches

STEUBENVILLE - All personal and business ads for the Big Red football program must be turned into the high school ticket office by July 26. You may also prepay your season tickets at this time.

Big Red merchandise is on sale from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at the commons area.

Big Red boosters to meet

STEUBENVILLE?- The Big Red Boosters Club will meet at 6 p.m. today at the high school conference room. The 17th-annual Boosters Appreciation and Football Kickoff dinner will be held at 2 p.m. July 28 at West Elementary School.

Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. and all are invited. Tickets are available at the high school or from the boosters club.

A $10 donation is requested per meal. Senior football players and cheerleaders are complimentary. Please RSVP by July 22.

This year's honorees are Richard Donnelly, Joe Elias, Reynard Horston, Willie Simmons and Libby Wisnieski, along with deceased honorees Paul Firm and Charles Hopkins.
