STEUBENVILLE - Kingsville gave Steubenville one too many opportunities and Post 33 finally walked through the door.

Alex Young laced a single to score Bryan Pierro in the bottom of the 12th inning Tuesday at Vaccaro Field for a 6-5 victory over Kingsville in the Region 7 American Legion Baseball Tournament.

Steubenville will take on Wayne County, the top seed, at 5 p.m. today at Vaccaro Field.

"We had our chances early, but didn't take advantage of them," said Post 33 coach Donnie Young. "They are a scrappy team over there. They didn't make many mistakes and came up with a couple big hits late.

"That is a very good baseball team we just beat."

Pierro started the 12th with a single. He moved to third on an error after a John Linn base knock. That brought Young to the dish.

After scoring three times in the seventh for a 5-0 cushion, Post 33 had chances to win in the bottom of the ninth and 10th innings.

"We just didn't do enough to get it done in nine," said Young.

Jimmy Panella started for Steubenville and was replaced by Chris Murphy after 7 innings. Panella exited after back-to-back seeing-eye singles, but Murphy closed the door.

Murphy exited the bump after giving up a triple to Lou Wisnyai in the top of the 10th inning.

Young came to the hill and stranded two in the 10th and two in the 12th.

In a tournament where pitching is a commodity, Post 33 used a bit too much of it in Game 1.

"Absolutely," said Young. "But, we have plenty of arms. We'll come back tomorrow and get after it again.

"It was a great team effort. A lot of guys got involved and that's what we have to do all week."

Post 743 loaded the bases in the top of the ninth. Jeff Imbrogno ripped a two-out double that scored Victor Tuttle and Andrew Graeb, but Dylan Morici was gunned down at the plate on a relay from Pierro to Young to catcher Kai McClurg.

Colabella finished with three singles and two RBIs. Young totaled three doubles, a single and a pair of RBIs. Pierro had two singles and a double and John Linn a double and single.

Post 33 scored one in the third and fifth innings when Colabella knocked in Young. It scored three in the seventh when Steve Mihalyo walked, McClurg was hit by a pitch, Linn doubled to score Mihalyo, Young doubles to score McClurg and Colabella singled to play Young.
