Bobby Brandt and the Eldurays to perform Saturday

COLLIERS - Bobby Brandt and the Eldurays, an oldies rock and roll band, will fill in for Hank Vincent and Stone Street Station at the next Country Friends gathering Saturday at the Memorial Hall on Old Police Lodge Road.

Everyone is invited. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the dance to begin at 7 p.m.

County Friends is a non-profit group formed to promote Christian fellowship through music and covered dish dinners. It meets each Monday, Friday and Saturday at the Memorial Hall. Doors open at 4 p.m., with dinner at 5 p.m. and music, including frequent open mic nights, at 6 p.m.

Library to show comedy

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the film, "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The PG-13-rated film stars Steve Carell and Jim Carrey as two rival magicians.

Class focuses on watermelon

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be celebrating the beginning of Watermelon Month with a Wonderful Watermelon cooking class at 6 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Merriwether home near Merco Marine on the north end of Wellsburg.

A melon-carving demonstration will be given by Mike Bachinski, followed by watermelon recipes demonstrated by Nora Bell.

Library to show animated film

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the PG-rated animated film, "Ivan the Terrible," at 11 a.m. Aug. 3.

Liver Life Walk holds wrap-up

PITTSBURGH - The Liver Life Walk wrap-up event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at Red Beard's Lounge located at Sixth and Penn avenues.

The event will include food, gifts, awards and live music.

Immediately following, those who participated in the walk are invited to cross the Roberto Clemente Bridge to attend the Pittsburgh Pirates-Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game.

Weirton Elks Lodge 1801 plans

family picnic, watching party

WEIRTON - The Weirton Elks Lodge 1801, located at 3429 Main St., announces its upcoming activities that have been in the planning stages throughout the summer.

They are:

2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 3, Elks Family Picnic at the Marland Heights Park. Cost is $5 per member or guest. Children under 10 will be admitted free. The menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chicken and desserts. Games and prizes will be available for the children. The new State President Jim McIntyre and his wife, Kim, from the Sistersville Lodge will attend the picnic.

Sept. 7, West Virginia University- Oklahoma football game. Elk members and guests can enjoy the away game on the many big-screen televisions in the smoke-free and air-conditioned lounge area.

Hamburgers, hot dogs and snacks will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The game starts at 8 p.m.
