WEIRTON - Each year, the second week of August is dedicated to recognizing the services and contributions of community health centers to the local communities.
Family Medical Care Community Health Center from C.H.A.N.G.E., Inc. is among those health centers, providing service to residents of the Ohio Valley.
In observance of National Health Center Week, the third-annual Passport to Health Wellness Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 7 at the Serbian-American Cultural Center.
The event is sponsored by C.H.A.N.G.E., Inc.; Tri-State Medical Group and DaVita.
Participating businesses and organizations will provide information on healthy living, while providing giveaways and door prizes.
Several health screenings also will be provided, including blood pressure, oxygen levels, A1C, glucose, sleep apnea testing and kidney screening.
For a fee, visitors will be able to obtain OB Fetal 3D snapshots and EKGs, blood tests and immunizations. The Blood Mobile also will be on site for anyone interested in donating blood.
Personnel from the Weirton Fire Department, Weirton Police Department and Weirton Area Ambulance and Rescue Squad also are expected, according to organizers.
America's health centers now serve more than 20 million people in 7,000 communities in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam.
