VALIGA, Michael D., 89, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013, in the Weirton Geriatric Center.
Born October 17, 1923, in Youngstown, OH, he was the son of the late Michael and Bertha Valiga. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Emily Kucera Valiga in 1983.
With over 30 years of service, Mr. Valiga retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a foreman in the Tin Mill. He was a member of Cove Presbyterian Church, where he served as Elder and Deacon. Michael enjoyed golfing at Ponderosa Golf Course and fishing.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
Michael is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ruth Ann Threnhauser Valiga of Weirton; a son, Gregory Valiga of Andover, OH; a stepson, Joel S. Schreiner, and his wife, Terri of Weirton; a daughter, Michelle D. Young and her husband, David of Greenville, SC; a step-daughter, Melissa J. Himes and her husband, Brian of Poland, OH; grandchildren, Danielle Blevins, Shannon (Scott) Patterson, Joel Schreiner, Marc Young and Jared Schreiner; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday 2-6 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday. Interment will be in Ft. Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville, OH.
