EVERSON, Lawrence R. Sr., 73, of Wintersville, Ohio, formerly of Brilliant, Ohio, went to be with his wife in heaven on her birthday, Sunday August 4, 2013, in his home.

He was born May 8, 1940, in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of the late Bernard L. and Mary (Lecik) Everson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife of 53 years, Barbara L. (Lathem) Everson, who passed away August 7, 2012.

Larry retired from United Parcel Service after 30 years of service. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was based in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and Texas. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mingo Junction; the Brilliant American Legion Post 573; and an honorary member of the Brilliant Fire Department. He loved to shoot pool and was in many tournaments. Most importantly Larry was a family man and he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family.

Larry leaves behind six children, Sheila (Larry) Petras of Brilliant, Tammy (Mark) Persich of Peoria, Il, Barbara (Greg) Verhovec of Rayland, Janet (Dave) Filippi of Dover, Laurie (Rich) Mayeres of Shadyside, and Lawrence R. Everson Jr. of Wintersville; a sister, Deborah Everson of Birmingham, Alabama; and 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; Somer (Petras) Snyder, Sunnie (Petras) Beckett, Corey Dennis, Lauren (Dennis) Beasley, Drew Dennis, Greg Verhovec, Audrianna Verhovec, David Filippi, Gabriel Filippi, Luke Filippi, Jenna Mayeres, Jaycee Mayeres, Emily Everson, Xander Everson, Haley Dennis, Kinley Dennis, Madison Beasley, and Hunter Beasley.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant. On Wednesday Larry will Lay in State at St. Agnes Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10 a.m., with Fr. James M. Dunfee, celebrant.
