Brooke Service District to meet
WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Service District will hold a general business meeting at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at the district office located at 711 Charles St.
WEIRTON - The Weirton Woman's Club, a Greater Federation of Women's Clubs of West Virginia member organization, will hold a murder mystery dinner fundraiser Oct. 5 at the Serbian American Cultural Center.
Mystery Theatre Unlimited will present "The Calamityville Horror," an interactive musical comedy starring Bert Furioli, Butch Maxwell, Michael Moran, Shannan Noe and Ryan Sears. Horror and hilarity ensue when a haunted house is inherited.

Dinner to honor
CHARLESTON - Fifty years ago, Jay Rockefeller arrived in West Virginia as a young VISTA volunteer. He went on to become a member of the state House of Delegates, Secretary of State, president of a university, governor of West Virginia and a U.S. Senator.
The West Virginia Democratic Party's Jefferson/Jackson Dinner will be dedicated to Rockefeller, who is stepping down from the Senate in January.
Larry Puccio, the party's chairman, added a special keynote speaker will be announced in the near future. It will be held Oct. 12 at the Charleston Civic Center.

Club to hold
WEIRTON - The Weirton Woman's Club Pearl S. Buck Committee will hold a drawing for a Chinese purse as a fundraiser for the Mary H. Weir Public Library.
The purse is designed to hold a tablet or e-reader. The drawing will be held at the end of August. Committee Chair Carol Village decorates the library display case, usually with West Virginia women authors, and has a special display on Buck currently on view.
