Weirton senior center set

to hold dance Thursday

WEIRTON - The Greater Weirton Area Senior Center will hold its third Thursday dance Thursday.

The dance will feature the Not Half Bad Band. Doors open at 5 p.m. The cover charge is $5.

Paris church holding retreat

PARIS, Pa. - The Paris Presbyterian Church will hold a "Take It Outside" all-church family retreat from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 16 and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at the church located on Steubenville Pike.

Led By Mercy will lead the closing worship service at 6 p.m. Aug. 17. Tammy Cain and church youth will lead the 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. Aug. 18 services.

Society looks at Whiskey Rebellion

ELDERSVILLE, Pa. - The Jefferson Township Historical Society will host Clay Kilgore, who will present "Digging for the Whiskey Rebellion" at the 10 a.m. Aug. 17 meeting at the White Church located at 12 Fire Road, across from the Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Kilgore, Washington County Historical Society director, will speak about two Whiskey Rebellion sites, the John Holcroft and Judge John Lobinger homes, which were visited by the National Geographic "Diggers" cast, searching for Whiskey Rebellion artifacts.

Kilgore also will discuss the rebellion, the artifacts found and show clips from the show.

The public is welcome to attend.

Car cruise set for Aug. 18

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio - Ohio Valley Home Health Services Inc. will hold the fourth annual car show and family fun day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 18 at the facility located at 15679 state Route 170.

Registration for the car cruise will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Registration is $5, and the first 75 cars will receive a free dash plaque. Trophies will be awarded in 15 categories. The event will include a disc jockey, children's games and prizes, drawings, a 50/50 drawing, a bake sale and a concession stand. Home Health Services will offer a free blood pressure clinic, and children will be able to tour and explore ambulances.

Proceeds fund in-home charity care for Ohio Valley residents. Bill Tice Services/BTAS Properties is a sponsor.

Corn festival scheduled

WEIRTON - The seventh annual corn festival will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 18 at Christ United Methodist Church located at 3598 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton Heights.

Entertainment begins at 6 p.m. Food includes fresh-picked corn on the cob, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw, dessert and a beverage.

The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under and free for children under 5.

Lions holding fundraiser

NEW CUMBERLAND - The New Cumberland Lions Club will hold a pulled pork fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Swaney Memorial Library parking lot.

A pulled pork dinner costs $6.50 and a sandwich alone costs $5. Coleslaw topping on the sandwich is an additional 25 cents. One-half smoked chicken dinners are available for $7, and a chicken only is $5.50. Both dinners include baked beans and potato salad or coleslaw.

Chickens are limited; advance ordering is recommended.

Whole smoked pork butts will be available for $22 by advance order only. To ensure receiving a chicken or to order a pork butt, call Lion Bob Manypenny at (304) 564-5055 by 6 p.m. Aug. 20.

Class of 1948 to hold reunion

WEIRTON - The Weir High School Class of 1948 will hold their 65th class reunion Sept. 14 at Gio's Restaurant located on Pennsylvania Ave.

All those classmates and friends wanting to attend should send $35 to Lois Merenda, 7029 Berringer Court, Coraopolis, Pa., 15108 by Thursday. This will likely be the last class reunion, due to age and declining attendance.

St. Paul holding registration

WEIRTON - St. Paul School's pre-3 preschool program is accepting registration for the afternoon class.

Classes will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the school located at 140 Walnut St. Enrollment is limited; a $35 nonrefundable fee is due at the time of registration.
