Sacred Heart of Mary Church

to hold rummage sale today

WEIRTON - The Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 pm. Saturday.

The event will include a 50/50 drawing, a drawing for Pittsburgh Pirates tickets and food and drinks.

Our Lady holding festival

WHEELING - Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church will hold its summer festival from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. today and Saturday at the church located at 4136 Jacob St.

A disc jockey will provide music, and the event will include bingo, games of chance and children's games. There will be a 50/50 drawing, $100 Best Buy card drawing and $200 Kroger card drawing. Food will include baked goods, cabbage and noodles, pierogies, kielbasa, cabbage rolls, hot sausage, funnel cakes and pizza.

All are welcome.

Immunization hours extended

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Hancock County Health Department is offering extended immunization hours from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the health department located at 100 N. Court St., directly behind the courthouse.

No appointment is necessary.

The health department participates in the Vaccine for Children program. If a child is enrolled in Medicaid, uninsured or under-insured, they qualify for free immunizations. The health department also offers immunizations on a sliding fee scale.

Incoming seventh- and 12th-grade students are required to have proof of immunization against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus and meningococcal disease under state law. These vaccines are available at the health department.

Biographic film to be shown

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the PG-13-rated film "42", the story of baseball great Jackie Robinson, at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Crocheting group to meet

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library's Crocheting Group will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The group is for adults of all crocheting levels, from beginners through experts. Bring your own supplies and projects. If you need help, someone will be available to assist or instruct you.

Farmers markets continue

The Brooke County Farmers Markets are continuing from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. each Wednesday, with a variety of locally grown produce, baked goods and crafts for sale.

The markets are held on alternating weeks in front of the Unity Apartments on state Route 2 at the north end of Wellsburg and Ray Stoaks Plaza by the Follansbee Municipal Building, also on Route 2.

The next market will be held Wednesday in Follansbee, and the following one, on Aug. 28, will be held in Wellsburg.

A farmers market also will be held in Bethany from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 31.

Women's health clinic set

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Hancock County Health Department bi-monthly women's health and wellness clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 23 at the health department, located at 100 N. Court St., directly behind the courthouse.

Kolleen Dayton, nurse practitioner will be available and the following screening services will be offered: pap tests, pelvic and breast exams, limited sexually transmitted disease testing and family planning consulting.

Parental consent is not required.

Republican Committee to hold meeting

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Republican Executive Committee will hold the monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Brooke County Library located at 10th and Main streets.

All interested Republicans and conservatives are welcome to attend.

Society seeks volunteers

BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. - The Fort Vance Historical Society is seeking volunteers to assist with the collection and organization of old newspaper articles.
