Rummage sale at Weirton church

The Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church located at 200 Preston Ave., Weirton, will continue its two-day rummage sale today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will include a 50/50 drawing, a drawing for Pittsburgh Pirates tickets and food and drinks.

Cabbage roll dinner Thursday

St. Nicholas Orthodox Church will hold a cabbage roll dinner and bake sale from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday at the church located at 604 Colliers Way, Weirton, across from the Weirton Medical Center.

The meal includes a cabbage roll, mashed potatoes, vegetables and dessert. The cost is $8.

CWC fall card party set for Sept. 15

The Catholic Women's Club of Triumph of the Cross Parish is continuing plans for its fall card party on Sept. 15 in the Holy Rosary Auditorium on Rosemont Avenue in Steubenville.

Doors will open at 1 p.m. Admission is $6.

Lunch will be served.

Men's breakfast for area residents

A men's breakfast at NorthSide Community Church located at 702 Orchard Grove Ave., East Liverpool, welcomes all area men to "Join Jesus' Winning Team Today."

The event will be held Sept. 7 beginning at 8 a.m. Dress is casual with participants encouraged to wear their favorite team colors.

The breakfast will be buffet style with donations accepted at the door to help offset the cost.

Men are urged to bring canned goods that will be donated to "The Center" in Midland, Pa.

The program will include Bill Crawford from Team Mojo; Bob Headley of Youth With A Purpose Boys Home in Salineville; Walter "Bing" Newton, founder of Men of Faith Rally in the Valley; the Ohio Valley Teen Challenge Choir; and a special guest from the Men's Rally in the Valley 2014.

Church's chicken barbecue Aug. 31

The 30th-annual Effie Stewart chicken barbecue will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 at Jewett United Methodist Church.

The menu is a half a chicken, baked potato, baked beans, cole slaw, drink and dessert. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children.

First Westminster picnic Sunday

First Westminster Presbyterian Church of Steubenville will hold its annual picnic Sunday at Belleview Park.

Toronto church has annual picnic

Toronto North River Avenue Christian Church held its annual picnic at Stratton with minister Luke Hightshue welcoming more than 90 church members and guests.

The event included games, food and fellowship.

Lola Swanagan was chairman of the event.

Jen Kisner, daughter of Paul and Crissie Cunningham, traveled the farthest, coming from Alaska.

Church adopts park-and-go policy

Grace Lutheran Church located at 2105 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, has adopted a park-and-go policy for individuals using the church's lot while attending Steubenville Big Red and Catholic Central football games at nearby Harding Stadium.

"Loitering, partying, gaming and alcohol" are prohibited, according to posted flyers.

Parking donations will continue to benefit mission projects the church supports.

Christian concert at Grace Point

Grace Point Ministries located at 4244 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, will host a Christian concert performed by JJ Heller on Aug. 31 beginning at 7 p.m.

Heller is a Phoenix-based singer-songwriter, wife and mother, according to her Facebook page. A church flyer promoting the concert notes, "Let's start some healing in the Ohio Valley with a Christian concert performed by JJ Heller."

On the flyer, Heller is quoted: "I feel called to be honest about what's going on in my life - to talk and sing about the struggles that I face so that my listeners realize that they are not alone. For some reason, Christians, including myself, sometimes think 'If I'm following the Lord and doing the best I can, that life will be easy,' and it's not. That's where grace comes in, and that's where we grow."

Grace Point Ministries, located near Tim Horton's, began on April 8, 2012, and is a nondenominational church "that desires the name and message of Jesus to permeate the community."

Its three elders are teaching pastor Jeremy Ellis and pastors Tim Hayden and Zac Crosby. Sunday service times are 9:30 a.m., men's prayer; 10 a.m., worship service; and Kids Point, 10 a.m.

Annual corn festival scheduled today

The seventh-annual corn festival will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 18 at Christ United Methodist Church located at 3598 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton Heights.

Entertainment begins at 6 p.m.

Food includes fresh-picked corn on the cob, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw, dessert and a beverage.

The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under and free for children under 5.
