Weir High School Class of 1951

to hold meeting Thursday

WEIRTON - The Weir High School Class of 1951 will meet at noon Thursday at Dee-Jay's BBQ and Grille located on Three Springs Drive.

All classmates are welcome to attend.

Church to hold book talk, concert

PARIS, Pa. - Larry Neptune, "Conquer Your Disease" author and New Cumberland native, will discuss how his faith and family helped him beat cancer at Coffee With the Author at noon Friday at The Gathering Place Coffee House located at the Paris Presbyterian Church at 127 Steubenville Pike.

Neptune wrote "Conquer Your Disease" after his fight with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He will discuss his book, sell copies and do a book signing.

All proceeds from books purchased at the event will benefit The Gathering Place. The event is free, and coffee will be served.

The church also will host "Music on the Deck," featuring the Jimmy Z Trio, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at The Gathering Place.

Jim Zalenka will perform music from the Great American Songbook, including songs written by Johnny Mercer, George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter and Jerome Kern, in swing style.

The event is free. Refreshments will be served. Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs.

In the case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors.

A.D. White Society to host lecture

AVELLA, Pa. - The A.D. White Research Society will hold the annual Anthony Valenti Memorial Cultural Lecture and reservation dinner at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Church Hall.

Wildlife artist Frank Hnat of Hickory will be the guest speaker. A tribute also will be paid to Valenti's memory and his work with the society.

Meals will cost $13 each, and those attending may send a check to St. Michael's Church, 95 Highland Ave., Avella, PA 15312. Those making reservations are asked to note whether they want a stuffed chicken breast or Salisbury steak.

Country Friends to hold dance

COLLIERS - The Country Friends will host Art Beal and The Country Tradition Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 402 Old Police Lodge Road.

The doors open at 6 p.m. and the dance starts at 7 p.m.

Country Friends hold covered-dish dinners and open mic nights every Monday and Friday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m.

Sheriff holding town hall meeting

NEW MANCHESTER - Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher will hold a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the New Manchester Volunteer Fire Department Hall, located at Main Street and Veterans Boulevard.

The public is invited to attend and ask questions, voice concerns and hear what Fletcher is doing to improve law enforcement in Hancock County.

WEIRTON - Marland Heights Preschool is now accepting registration for 3- and 4-year-old classes.
