HONORED: John W. Cucarese has been named to the 2013 President's Council of New York Life.

Members of the President's Council are among the top 8 percent of New York Life's sales force of 12,250 licensed agents.

Cucarese has been a New York Life agent since 2005 and is associated with the firm's Pittsburgh general office.

With an office located in Steubenville, Cucarese provides solutions to clients throughout the Tri-State Area in the areas of retirement planning, life insurance, financial strategies and long-term care insurance. A Wintersville native, he is a graduate of Ohio Sate University and is active in the community.

PROMOTED: Stephanie Hooper-Golein has been promoted to vice president of finance, West Liberty University President Robin C. Capehart reports.

Hooper-Golein previously held the position of controller. Her promotion was effective Aug. 1.

A resident of Wheeling, she joined West Liberty in 2011 and has managed the day-to-day operations of the business office. She also was responsible for preparation and oversight of the annual budget and prepared financial reports for board of governors, president and the chief financial officer.

Prior to WLU, she was employed for six years at Compass Group NAD, Charlotte, N.C., a foodservice management and support services business. While at Compass, she was a senior accounting manager with a managed volume of $650 million and she spent five years in the higher education market as a regional controller and senior accountant for Bon Appetit and Chartwells, subsidiaries of Compass.

From 1999-2004, Hooper-Golein was employed by Wheeling Jesuit University as an accountant at the center for educational technologies, Wheeling, and as a student worker analyzing construction budgets.

Hooper-Golein earned her bachelor of science degree in accounting and her master's degree in business administration from Wheeling Jesuit.

She and her husband, Matt, are the parents of two sons, Carsen and Kesler.

LEADERS: Online registration for the 2013 Leadership Academy is now open.

The academy will be held at Waterfront Place Hotel in Morgantown. Its theme is "Working Together," and in addition to the community leadership track, they've added a local government track, allowing more breakout session options, networking opportunities and discussions about cooperation between all community leaders.

There will be structured networking as well as a culinary tour of downtown Morgantown.The keynote speaker will be Ed Morrison of Purdue University, who will focus on "Strategic Doing" that enables civic leaders to collaborate quickly along organizational and political boundaries while remaining focused on transforming their economies.

STUDENT AID: Orientation for new students at Eastern Gateway Community College will be Wednesday at the Jefferson County Campus, Steubenville.

Sessions for new students start every half hour from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Students must register for either the morning or evening session by calling (740) 264-5591, extension 212. Due to space limitations, only students will be permitted to attend the sessions.

Students will learn about academic advising, student services, financial aid/billing and student computer and e-mail accounts. Refreshments will be served.

New students attending will be entered in a drawing for an iPad.
