Woodcarver's guild to hold annual show

WHEELING - The Oglebay Woodcarver Guild will hold the 34th annual carving show and sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at the Crispin Center's Pine Room.

Wood carvings will be displayed with many for sale.

Exhibitors include: Joe Romanyak and Duke Jordan of Weirton; Jim Showalter and Sue Mozena of Wheeling; Kelli Dague of Triadelphia; Joe Hodorowski of Bellaire, Ohio; John Tomaszewski of New Martinsville, Ohio; Al Pierson of Washington, Pa.; Clark Adams of Strabane, Pa.; Susah Dorsch and Ann Swearingen of St. Clairsville, Ohio; Ray Thurston of Medina, Ohio; Bill Baker of Pennsylvania; John Broughton of Kentucky; Bob Chaffee and Ken Kohl of New York.

Vendors will sell wood suitable for carving, pre-made boxes, plates and cutout carving pieces; carving tools; and patterns and pattern books. Carving and tool sharpening demonstrations will be held on the lawn.

Food and drinks will be available from the Oglebay Park concession counter directly inside the Pine Room.

On entry, each visitor will receive a free drawing ticket for a chance to win a carving. There will be a drawing every hour during the show and winner must be present to win.

Drawing tickets for an Oglebay Park deluxe cabin rental and Oglebay gift cards will be for sale. The drawing will be held Sept. 1; winner need not be present.

The woodcarvers guild uses funds derived from drawings and donations for contributions to 13 community soup kitchens where local carving members reside and subscriptions for Chip Chats carving magazine for 15 public libraries.

An annual drawing is conducted with funds donated to the Stifel Fine Arts Center to support children's programs.
