No Monday meeting of Country Friends

Country Friends has canceled the Monday meeting at the Memorial Hall on Old Police Lodge Road in Colliers because of the Labor Day holiday.

The regular schedule will resume after the holiday. While the Monday meeting will not be held, the Friday and Saturday ones will.

The doors open at 4 p.m. on Friday, the covered-dish meal begins at 5 p.m., and open mic starts at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, Stone Street Station will entertain from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christian friendship and brotherly love through music. All proceeds go to charity. For information, call (304) 527-4253 or (304) 479-1270. The website is

Knights of Columbus plan corn roast

Immaculate Heart of Mary Council No. 472 is having its annual corn roast with hot dogs, beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday at the council hall located at Two Ridges Road, Wintersville.

Special guests for the evening will be Dick Sperry, Area 9 Special Olympics director; Ruth Sperry, Area 9 treasurer; and Jane Bodo, Jefferson County Special Olympics coordinator.

The three will be presented checks by the council with monies collected during the Measure Up Campaign in April to benefit individuals with mental disabilities.

All members, their families and guests are invited to attend. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for those 12 and younger. The social room will be available for refreshments at a minimal cost.

New members for Toronto Seniors

The Toronto Senior Citizens met Aug. 22 with Doris Matyas presiding and welcoming new members Joyce Zimmerman and Jack Lesnick and guest Sandy Lesnick.

Robert Haught gave the blessing for the pizza party, and Kenny Woodward led the members in opening exercises.

Reports were given by Shirley Rebich and Rosemary Bonofine.

Lola Swanagan updated members on remaining trips, including the next trip to Hartville on Thursday. The bus will leave Stratton at 8 a.m. and Toronto at 8:30 a.m. There are two seats available for the Smokies trip to Dollywood, Biltmore, Pigeon Forge and Mt. Aries on Sept 16-19. The Riverboat Cruise will be Oct 19.

The kitchen committee for September will be Mary Alice Meyer, Robbie France, Paula Krensavage, Shirley Rebich, Sally Bauman, Pat Ferrell, Dorothy Kliner, Becky Swickard and Cecilia Petras.

Members having birthdays and anniversaries were announced. The 50/50 was won by Tony Farrister. Door prize winners were Ben Cicone, Deanne Starr, Marilyn Peckens, Jim Kliner, Bill Baier, Theresa Troski, Dorothy Farrister, Pat Balser, Carol Thompson and Barbara Lyons. Bingo winners were Nancy Ludewig, Angie Kurty, Norma Montgomery and Bob Richardson.

Scat winners were Bob Richardson, Bill Baier, Irene Miller, Dee Fouts, Doris Matyas, Terry Mamula, Pat Rose, Pat Pfabe and Huck Hanuscin.

The next meeting will be held Sept. 12 at the Roosevelt Building.
