STEUBENVILLE - Steubenville City Council will hold telephone interviews Tuesday evening with four candidates still interested in the city manager job.
Third Ward Councilman Greg Metcalf said Tuesday night one of the five final candidates withdrew his application in the past several days.
"We will meet in executive session in the Pugliese conference room starting at 5 p.m. and will conduct half-hour interviews with each of the four final candidates. The next step will then be the face-to-face interviews. So after the telephone interviews we will collectively decide if we will reduce the list of finalists or bring in all four candidates for the face-to-face interviews," Metcalf explained.
"At that point we will want to bring in our citizens review committee to participate in the face-to-face interviews. We continue to move forward, and we will meet the Sept. 14 deadline for offering the city manager job to one of the candidates," Metcalf added.
Each council member has selected a representative for the citizens review committee.
The search for a new city manager started with 34 applicants after former City Manager Cathy Davison resigned from the job ending a 38-month tenure.

The charter states the city manager will "be responsible for complete operation of a full service city and all service and safety departments. The salary is open and the successful applicant shall, within six months of appointment, establish and maintain residence in Steubenville."
The city charter requires applicants to possess an "undergraduate degree in public administration, business administration or related field and have at least two years of experience as a city manager or assistant city manager or in the alternative have at least 10 years of experience as a city manager."
According to the city charter, "Once the applicant is chosen, the said applicant must be on the job within 30 days from the date he or she is hired."
