WEIRTON - President Diane Pastoric presided over the Weirton Woman's Club, a General Federation of Women's Clubs of West Virginia member organization, September meeting at the Serbian American Cultural Center located on Colliers Way.
Ida Haynes read several inspirational stories and led the Pledge of Allegiance and the club collect.
Program Chair Jeanne Amidon introduced Chuck Lucas, who sang and played the acoustic guitar. Lucas performs with the Joseph Sisters and gives guitar lessons.
Fundraising Chair Teresa McGowan reported the murder-mystery dinner theatre will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Serbian American Cultural Center. It will include a Chinese auction and 50/50 drawing. Tickets are $30. To purchase a ticket, contact Barbara Raynolds at (304) 723-9772. No tickets will be sold at the door.
Conservation Chair Shirlee Baltich reported four rhododendron shrubs were donated for the West Virginia Sesquicentennial celebration at the Weirton Event Center. Members were asked to bring old blankets, towels and dog and cat food for the homeless animals at the Hancock County Animal Shelter to the October meeting.
State Project Chair Diana Durst is accepting donations to support sending children to Camp Kno-Knoma, a diabetes camp for children aged 7 through 15. It costs $275 per camp. Those making a $5 donation will be entered into a $50 gift card drawing, and $1 donations will be matched by a sponsor. A dollar auction to support the project will be held at the October meeting.
Home Life Chair Sandy Robbins noted a Breast Fest educational event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at Weirton Medical Center's atrium lobby. The event will include a bra-decorating contest with first, second and third prizes awarded. The entry fee is $25. The club donated $100.
Volunteers are needed for blood analysis clinics Sept. 21 and 28 at the medical center.
International Outreach Chair Colleen Mindzak scheduled a showing of "Babette's Feast" from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Mary H. Weir Library. International foods will be served, and the event is free to the public.
Public Issues Chair Cathy Cooper reported the club had a brick placed at the Brooke/Hancock Veteran's Memorial Walk of Memories.
The Art Department will meet at noon Sept. 28 at Undo's with speaker Susan Evans Boyce, and the Literary Department will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Undo's with speaker Susan Spencer-Smith.
The Northern District style show featuring Phylis' Fashions will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Holiday Inn - Weirton. Tickets are $20. To purchase tickets, contact Sharon Neeley at (304) 797-1945.
The fall district convention will be held Oct. 12 in Moundsville.
