WEIRTON - The Hancock County Federation of Democratic Women meeting was held Aug. 19 at Giovanni's Restaurant.
President Marilyn Boyd greeted those attending and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Silent roll was taken. The minutes were read and accepted. Secretary Debbie Caine also read the treasurer's report, which was filed for audit. It was reported the club now has 30 members.
The West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women will hold its annual meeting Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Bridgeport Conference Center in Charles Pointe.
Boyd also has quilt fundraiser tickets for sale. Caine noted the club had purchased advertisements in both the annual meeting book and the Sen. Jay Rockefeller tribute program book.
The club made a $75 donation toward the federation's First District meeting held Sept. 7 in Wheeling. Members Kathy Link, Alesia Brogan and Shelba Kirkbride attended.
Caine distributed information on the Fall River Fest to be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 28 and noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 29 along River Avenue in New Cumberland.
The club is considering having a booth at the festival, where they will register voters and hold a 50/50 and Homer Laughlin gift basket drawing. Donna Gialluco volunteered to chair.
The club will hold its Christmas party Dec. 2 at Giovanni's Restaurant. The cost to members will be $5. Donna Gialluco, Teresa McCombs and Kathy Link will co-chair this event and report back next meeting.
The group will establish a five-member Nominating Committee for the election of officers. Boyd encouraged members to consider a two-year term as an officer or being part of the Nominating Committee.
The meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be at 5 p.m. today in Giovanni's Restaurant. All Democratic women in the county are invited to attend.
