Safe driving class offered

WEIRTON - The Brooke-Hancock-Ohio-Marshall Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will sponsor an AARP Safe Driving class from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 3 and 4 at the Mary H. Weir Public Library.

The class is geared toward mature adults who may or may not be experiencing problems with diminishing vision, hearing and reaction time. Rules of the road are reviewed along with safe driving techniques.

Most insurance agencies offer a discount on vehicle insurance premiums to those who have completed the two-day course. The cost is $12 fee per AARP members and $14 for non-members and must be paid prior to attending the class. Participants are limited to 20, so reservations should be made by calling (304) 527-3410.

School of Terror


WEIRTON - The Haunted School of Terror will be open from 7 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturday in October at Krazy Bout Sportz located at 2850 Weir Ave.

Admission is $10, and proceeds benefit Piece by Peace, a nonprofit organization advocating sensory therapy for those on the autism spectrum.

The haunted house is sponsored by Marsh Hardware Supply, Hancock County Savings Bank, Auto Zone, Novelty Plus, Hundred Acres Manor, Lowe's, Cimation and Weirton Lumber.

Entries sought for baby contest

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Right to Life seeks entries for its Beautiful Baby Contest, which will be held during the Wellsburg Applefest Oct. 4-6.

It's open to children 3 and under, and entries must be submitted by Sept. 29 to Marla Mercer, 221 Hillcrest Drive, Wellsburg, WV 26070. They should include a 4-inch by 6-inch photo of the child, with his or her full name and age on the back and the name, address and phone number of the adult submitting it on an index card.

The winning child will be announced on the festival's last day and will receive a $100 savings bond and chance to ride in the Wellsburg Fourth of July Parade. For information, call (304) 829-4383.

Lodge women to hold yard sale

WELLSBURG - The Wellsburg Women of the Moose will hold an indoor yard sale at the Moose Lodge at 844 Main St. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 5.

The group welcomes vendors, who may rent 8 foot tables for $10 each. Anyone interested in donating items should call (304) 737-0178 or 737-2553.
