A very special Blue Mass

September 22, 2013
Weirton Daily Times

To the editor:

Thank you to all those who helped to make the Sept. 15 Blue Mass so special. It was humbling to see so many police, fire and EMS personnel in uniform arrive on the front steps of Holy Name Cathedral eager and ready to celebrate a special day in their honor.

First, we would like to personally thank Bishop Jeffrey Monforton for celebrating this Mass and for giving a homily that was both inspiring and encouraging. Next, we would like to thank the Revs. Thomas Nau and Bradley Greer for their time and support in helping to plan this very special day. Further, we would like to thank the ladies of the parish who helped with the reception to honor our safety personnel. Your thoughtfulness, love and kindness will linger in the hearts of those you served.

We are also grateful to Mark Nelson from Nelson Fine Arts and Gifts who donated such meaningful gifts for each of the police, fire and EMS personnel who attended. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Rick Hicks who played taps so beautifully and somberly in remembrance of our local fallen heroes. The support of the parishioners and community members who attended the Mass did not go unnoticed. The warmth of your smile and welcoming spirit made us feel loved and appreciated. And, last, my wife, Alexandra, and I would like to personally thank every law enforcement officer, firefighter and emergency medical technician who, along with their families, participated in the Mass. Thank you for your service to our community and as Bishop Monforton said in his homily, "You are heroes. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise."
