Weirton’s fall cleanup scheduled for Oct. 7-11

WEIRTON - The City Department of Public Works announced fall cleanup will be held Oct. 7-11.

Clean-up week pickups are scheduled for the same day as regular garbage pickups.

Household items must be at curbside before 7 a.m. A fee will be assessed if a crew must return to a completed area to pick up additional items. Clean-up week is limited to household items only. The city will pick up electronics, but only if they are separated from household items.

Recycling will not be picked up Oct. 7-11. Recycling collection will resume the next scheduled recycling week.

The city will pick up metal items Friday throughout the city. Items must be at curbside before 7 a.m. Items that will be picked up include stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, hot water tanks, railing, bicycle frames and metal shelving.

Scavenging items placed on curbside for clean-up is prohibited. Anyone cited for scavenging will be fined from $5 to $500 and costs for the first offense. Anyone cited twice will be fined and imprisoned for up to 30 days.

The city will not pick up construction materials, vehicle tires or parts, tree trimmings and brush, propane tanks, hazardous materials, air conditioners, lawn mowers and paint and paint cans.

The Hancock County Solid Waste Authority Recycle and Convenience Center will accept unused and old paint in original containers at the facility located at 832 Gas Valley Road. It is open to Hancock County residents only, and those utilizing the facility should have a current garbage bill or receipt.
