Weir High School Class of '57 to hold social Thursday

WEIRTON - The Weir High School Class of 1957 will hold their monthly social at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Three Springs Drive Eat'n Park.

All classmates, spouses and friends are welcome.

Country Friends host Sands of Time

COLLIERS - The Country Friends will host the Sands of Time Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 402 Old Police Lodge Road.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance begins at 7 p.m.

A covered-dish dinner and open mic night is held every Monday and Friday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m.

Pet show has 36 categories

WELLSBURG - The Wellsburg Applefest Pet Show has expanded, with winners to be named for 36 categories, up from 12 last year.

The event will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Municipal Insurance parking lot at Ninth and Charles streets.

Ernie Jack, who is co-chairing the event with Becky Ramsey, said in addition to dogs and cats, trophies will go out to a variety of other animals, including birds, rodents, lizards and turtles.

"We also will have categories for the jumpiest frog and longest snake," Jack said.

Club holding turkey shoots

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club is holding turkey shoots, beginning at 10 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27 and Nov. 3, 10 and 17 at the facility located at 592 Dairy Lane, off Gas Valley Road, behind Green Valley Dairy.

The cost is $2 per shot and $5 per shot during money shoots. There will be 50/50 shoots. Only factory guns and tubes are allowed. Prizes include cash, meat and novelties.

The kitchen will be open.
