EMPIRE - A car cruise-in, set from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the River Christian Fellowship Church, 183 Nessley St., will be a fundraiser for Valley Hospice, according to Helen and Troy Smith, co-organizers.
The car cruise also is in memory of Goldie Mae Hilderbrand Smith, who was Troy Smith's mother.
Donations to the In Memory of Goldie Mae Smith can be found at the Toronto U.S. Bank, according to the Smiths.
Registration is $5 per vehicle, and vintage vehicles, "souped up" trucks and cars as well as motorcycles are welcome, according to Helen Smith.
Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 50 participants, and disc jockey Dave Dock will spin tunes for entertainment.
Other activities will include food, such as chili, hot dogs and pizza, while a silent auction and games will be held and trophies awarded for winners for different classes of vehicles, said Helen.
A neon vehicle lighting contest also will be held as well, she added.
"This is our fifth care cruise and benefit for Valley Hospice," said Helen.
Troy noted he was appreciative of how hospice treated his late mother during her last last days, and while the cruises are held in memory of her, they also are a way to show gratitude for the health care provider that "treated my mother like gold."
