The Bergholz Area Museum will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday and this month features memorabilia related to the late Forrest Buchanan, who was a well-known educator and naturalist.
Buchanan was principal of Springfield High School for many years. In addition to his international travels as a naturalist, he also shared his knowledge with students at Camp Terra Alta in West Virginia each summer. A man of varied talents, Buchanan also was an accomplished poet and writer.
The museum's permanent collection includes a variety of historical items donated by area residents. These items include pictures and other memorabilia related to area communities, schools, local mines and various businesses. New items are constantly being acquired for display, according to a museum spokesperson.
The museum is located at the corner of Second and Jefferson streets in Bergholz across from the gazebo and town parking lot.
The museum is open the first Sunday of each month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. May through November. Admission is free.
