STEUBENVILLE - As Herm Edwards famously said, "You play to win the game."

The Big Red boys' soccer team netted at least two goals in each half en route to a 5-0 victory over Edison Saturday morning in a Breast Cancer Awareness Game at Harding Stadium.

"We played well," Big Red head coach Greg Bowers said. "We were able to play all 31 kids. We put them in with the varsity guys.

"I was happy with how we moved the ball. There was little difference in the two halves."

Big Red controlled the ball on the Wildcats' side of the field for the majority of the game.

"It was an early game, and it was tough to get them awake on the field," Edison (0-14) head coach Chris Bomely said. "In the first half, we couldn't get the ball out of our end. We played defense the whole time. We didn't possess the ball as much as I would like to."

The game was a scrimmage and not an official game.

"We are always working on something," Bowers said. "We were working on passing the ball, moving the ball and on our positioning.

"We couldn't be happier with how we played today."

The younger players are getting a lot of experience this season for Big Red.

"They are playing well," Bowers said. "We have a good group. We think they can step in and play next year. We are excited about them."

The Wildcats played the way they normally play.

"We treated it like a regular game," Bomely said. "It was a good atmosphere today. I am excited to see all of the teams playing together. We are glad to be a part of it."

Big Red (8-4-2) is scheduled to play at 5 p.m. Monday at Wheeling Central.

Edison is slated to play Tuesday at home against Linsly. The game against the Cadets is part of a girls' and boys' doubleheader.

The Edison girls will play Wheeling Central. It will be Senior Night for the Wildcats. The games will be played under lights at the high school soccer field.
