From staff reports , Weirton Daily Times

WEIRTON - The fifth-annual Robert Haworth Memorial Art Show is making its return.

The event is set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center. It was created by the museum's art committee as a way to both recognize the artistic talent's of local residents and remember the influence of Robert Haworth, who was an art teacher at Weir High School from 1932 to 1969.

Admission is free and open to the public. The museum is located at 3149 Main St.

"In 2009, the art committee of the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center decided to honor the memory of Mr. Haworth by honoring his students that have made a name for themselves in the field of art," Dr. Ray Greco, who chairs the art committee, said. "To date we have a list of nearly 40 of his students that have achieved."

Each year, one of Haworth's former students is selected as a focus of the show, with other local artists and current Weir High art students also invited to participate.

This year, the featured artist will be the late William Zdinak, who, according to Greco, is best known for his painting "In His Image."

Fact Box

The fifth-annual Robert Haworth Memorial Art Show will be held noon to 4 p.m Saturday at the Weirton Museum. This year's event will feature work by the late William Zdinak.

"In His Image" depicts Jesus Christ, incorporating the images of many other historical figures to make up the portrait.

The late Zdinak has been quoted as saying, "It doesn't really matter which persons are depicted. We are 'all one in Christ' as St. Paul has told us. Hurting one, we hurt all; helping one, we help all. That is the idea behind 'In His Image.'"
