Weirton Daily Times

WEIRTON - The Hancock County Federation of Democratic Women held the monthly meeting Sept. 16 at Giovanni's Restaurant.

President Marilyn Boyd called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Attendance was taken, and Secretary Debbie Caine read the last meeting's minutes. Shelba Kirkbride made a motion to accept the minutes as read, seconded by Lillian Douglas; the motion passed.

The club now has 31 members.

Shelba Kirkbride and Alesia Brogdan gave a report on the West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women First District meeting Sept. 7 at the Wheeling Capitol Building. State President Susan Hubbard spoke and distributed information to be taken back to individual clubs. Kirkbride went over that information. Judge Joyce Cherneko was the guest speaker. Belinda Biafore also spoke about the Shelly Capito candidacy.

Boyd asked for volunteers for the Nominating Committee, and Shelba Kirkbride, Alesia Brogdan, Boyd and Cathy Link were chosen to service on the committee. Members discussed offices and those interested.

Members discussed plans for the Christmas party, which will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at Giovanni's Restaurant. No gift exchange will be held; members are asked to donate canned and nonperishable items for the local food bank. Club members also will donate cleaning items to the Comfort House, and members were asked to bring such items for the donation.

Kirkbride made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Douglas and approved.

The next meeting will be held Monday at Giovanni's Restaurant. All Hancock county Democratic women are invited to attend.

For information, call Boyd at (304) 387-3348.
