ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Buckeye Local led Carrollton, 4-3, in Game 1.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, that is the last time they held the lead against the Warriors as the Carrollton volleyball team defeated Buckeye Local 25-8, 25-7, 25-11, Tuesday in an Ohio Division II Eastern District Sectional Semifinal on John Jenkins Court at St. Clairsville High School.
"We knew they were a very good team," Buckeye Local (3-18) head coach Janelle Windsheimer said. "We knew what we were up against. Our girls ready to play. They were ready to fight."
With the win, the Warriors (20-3) will now play in the sectional co-final at 6 p.m. Saturday against Edison. The Wildcats advanced to the co-final by defeating Jefferson County-rival Big Red 25-20, 25-20, 25-14, in Tuesday's second semifinal match.
"It was a good match for us," Carrollton head coach Amanda Tressa said.
Individually for the Warriors, Addie Borland and Ali Poole each tallied 13 kills, Kelsey Voll collected 30 assists and Kady Davis delivered 20 digs.
For the Panthers, Nicolette Devore collected two points, one ace, two kills, four assists and one dig; Morgan Fedorko contributed one point, two kills and one block; and Morgan Staten ended up with two kills and 10 digs.
Also, Lexus Fedorko finished with five assists and three digs; Becky Zeroski recorded 10 digs; and Rachel Zeroski produced three points.
Finally, Preslie Renforth added two digs.
"I absolutely had no idea what to expect from them," Tressa said. "I tried to look at some of their scores. I tried to look at some of the matches between teams we both played already this year."
Buckeye Local will be losing four seniors to graduation - Devore, Morgan Fedorko, Renforth and Staten.
"They have been an asset to the team," Windsheimer said. "We are going to have a lot of spots to fill next year. They were all starters."
Carrollton and Edison (17-6) played early in the season. The Warriors defeated the Wildcats in Edison's second match of the season.
"We played early on," Tressa said. "It was a Saturday morning match. You never know what you are going to get in those matches. It should be a very-good match."
