Weirton Elks Lodge 1801 set

to host euchre tournament

WEIRTON - The Weirton Elks Lodge 1801 House Committee will hold a euchre tournament and a Mexican/Halloween party for members and guests.

The euchre tournament will begin at 7 p.m. today in the downstairs lounge. A sign-up sheet is posted at the lodge or members can call the lodge at (304) 748-0565. The cost is $5 per person.

Those attending the Halloween party at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 are encouraged to dress in costume. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. There is no admission charge.

Food distribution scheduled

WEIRTON - The First Christian Church will hold a food distribution from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday and Oct. 31 at the church located at 3252 Main St.

The food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until it is gone. The distribution also will include personal hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

'Evening With Edgar' set

NEW CUMBERLAND - The third annual "Evening With Edgar" will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday at the Hancock County Museum on Ridge Avenue.

Kelsey Hayward, Oak Glen High School drama instructor, will do a first-person reading of Edgar Allen Poe's most popular pieces. The Hancock County Museum will be decorated for the Halloween season and to reflect Poe's macabre work.

Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free.

The museum and Hancock County Arts Council are sponsoring the event.

Forum to address minority issues

WEIRTON - Carolyn Stuart, The Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs executive director, will host a Northern Panhandle Region Listening Tour Forum at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Millsop Community Center located at 3420 Main Street.

This is the second of four regional forums providing an opportunity to raise awareness about issues that affect minorities. Local elected officials have been invited to attend. It is open to the public.

Courtside seating available

NEW CUMBERLAND - Courtside seating is available for the Harlem Wizards basketball game Oct. 30 at the Oak Glen Middle School.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the game begins at 7 p.m.

The ticket is $20, and includes seating alongside the Wizards, an autographed team pictures and opportunity to attend a meet-and-greet session with the Wizards. Tickets are limited.

The event is sponsored by the Oak Glen Middle School Culture Club.

Art Department seeks authors

WEIRTON - The Art Department of the Weirton Woman's Club, a General Federation of Women's Clubs of West Virginia member organization, is looking for area authors to participate in an "author's alley" as part of the 49th annual holiday craft festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 2 at the R.J. Bush Center located on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Authors may promote, sell and sign books. Those already scheduled to appear include Melissa Hosack of Aliquippa, Pa.; Shannon Giambroni, author of the children's book, "Tugger in the Country"; Mary M. Paice, "A Life of Love" and "Madam Judy Jordon" author; and Cindy McDonald, Unbridled Series author. For information, call Sharon Neeley at (304) 797-1945.

Church holding turkey dinner

WEIRTON - The Christ United Methodist Church will hold the annual turkey dinner from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 2 at the church located at 3598 Pennsylvania Ave.

The dinner includes turkey with all the trimmings. Eat-in and Take-out are available. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under.

Family Jewels to host auction

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Relay for Life Team Family Jewels will host the annual Christmas quarter auction Nov. 3 at First Westminster Presbyterian Church located at 235 N. Fourth St.

Doors open at 12:15 p.m., and the auction begins at 1 p.m. Lunch will be available. Tickets are $5.
