WELLSBURG - Some of the children who knew 13-year-old Hannah Mozingo well and many others who didn't will gather with many adults to pay tribute to her and raise money for the Mozingo family, which lost Hannah and their home in a natural gas explosion on Oct. 11.

Youth and adults are invited to launch balloons at 7 p.m. before Thursday's football game between Follansbee Middle School, where Hannah was in the eighth grade; and Wellsburg Middle School at Brooke High School.

Karin Ewing, a parent involved with the event, said the balloons will be launched from the Brooke High School Band area of the football field and are $1 each, with all proceeds going to the Mozingo family.

George and Tracey Mozingo and their daughter, Haley, a student at Brooke High School, were seriously injured by the blast that killed Hannah and destroyed their home on Eldersville Road.

Their son, Tyler, also a Brooke High School student, wasn't home at the time.

Ewing expressed thanks to Atlas Gas for supplying helium for the balloons and Apollo Professional Cleaning and Restoration for providing the balloons.

The balloon launch is the latest in a series of fundraisers organized by various groups.

Vito's 2 restaurant in Follansbee, owned by Vito "Skip" Cutrone, will hold a spaghetti dinner from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The cost is $10 per person. Advance and takeout orders are encouraged by calling (304) 527-4440.

Mustang Sally's, a bar not far from the Mozingo's home, will hold a Halloween party to benefit the family at 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Admission of $5 and proceeds from a Chinese auction and T-shirt sale will go to the family. There also will be music by the Iron Skillet band, a costume contest and food.

The Hillbilly Way, a country band from southwestern Pennsylvania, will perform for a benefit concert set for 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Serbian-American Cultural Center in Weirton. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children.

A fund also has been established at Progressive Bank. Donations may be made in care of the Mozingo family, Progressive Bank, 744 Charles St., Wellsburg WV 26070.

Call (304) 737-0821 for information about the account.
