Lucas entertains Moving On
Members of Moving On, a group of widows and widowers, met Oct. 13 for their luncheon and meeting at Undo's in Weirton with Norma Boni, president, presiding.
Fred Vogt gave the blessing and closing prayer, and Christine Brown provided a reading on what true friendship means.
October birthdays were acknowledged.
Chuck Lucas of Weirton entertained members on the guitar and sang popular songs, asking members to join him.
Claire French, Anita Spadafora and Toni Herron provided the baskets with fall flowers that decorated the tables.
Madeline Michael Boulson and Lucretia "Toots" Ross conducted the 50-50 drawing won by Nancy Martino. Undo gift certificates were won by Vogt and Carol Zagula. The rose pendant went to Vogt, and Boulson won the CD case.
Table prizes were won by Richard Kimmel, Mary Lou Shutak, Herbert Simms, Martha Wright and Jack Davis.
Carol Zagula discussed upcoming trips to Greenbrier, a Christmas show and trips for 2014.
Ross gave the secretarial report. Members received their new membership list for the year.
The next meeting will be held Nov. 10 at Undo's in Weirton. The cost is $12 for dinner and $10 for dues. Anyone interested in joining can contact Janet Saner at (740) 537-4487.
Food drive at Carmike Cinemas
In celebration of the release of the film "Free Birds" for the Thanksgiving season, Carmike Cinema 6 in the Fort Steuben Mall will be holding a food drive to benefit Urban Mission Ministries during the upcoming holiday season.
Items needed for holiday baskets include cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, boxed potatoes, sweet potatoes, chicken broth, yellow cake mix, vanilla icing, canned vegetables or any other non-perishable item.
Donations can be dropped off at the theater after 12:30 p.m. daily. The food drive will run until Nov. 15. Anyone bringing a donation for the food drive will be entered in a drawing for two free movie passes and "Free Birds" promotional items.
Urban Mission's "Bountiful Thom" Thanksgiving mascot will be making an appearance at the theater on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The community is invited to meet and be photographed with "Bountiful Thom" and learn more about Urban Mission.

Pasta dinner at Brentwood
Brentwood United Methodist Church will be having a pasta dinner from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church located at 148 Stephens St., Wintersville.
The cost of the dinner is by donation, and takeouts are available by calling (740) 264-4531.
Toronto Sunrise Seniors meet
At their Oct. 11 meeting, the Toronto Sunrise Seniors learned about a trip planned for May 2-5 to Washington, D.C.
The first payment will be due in January. Anyone interested should contact John Bodrog at (740) 537-1611 for information.
Dues are due for the 2013-14 year, members were reminded.
The annual Christmas party will be held on Dec. 13 at the Toronto American Legion Hall. Sign-ups will be conducted at the next meeting.

Halloween festivities In E. Springfield
The East Springfield Community Center will host a Halloween party on Oct. 31 that begins with a "trunk or treat" at 5 p.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church parking lot and continues with a party at the center at 6 p.m.
Judging of costumes gets under way at 7 p.m.
All ages are welcome.
Pumpkin-decorating contest set
The Follansbee Branch Library will hold a pumpkin-decorating contest for children in preschool through eighth grade at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Follansbee Friends of the Library will donate the pumpkins and supply the judges for the contest. All supplies will be provided by the library.

Club's Halloween party Thursday
The Brush Creek 50+ Club will be holding its annual Halloween party on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brush Creek Senior Center.
The party is for Brush Creek Township residents and friends. There will be games, contests and refreshments.
Children up to the age of 12 are invited and must be accompanied by an adult.
Animal clinic visit scheduled
The Brooke County Animal Welfare League will hold its next low-cost spay and neuter Roaming Animal Sterilization Clinic at Low Cost on Nov. 2-3 at the Jefferson County Airpark in Wintersville.
Pre-payment is required. There are no walk-in services or vaccinations available.
Appointments are not limited to Brooke County residents.
