Weirton Daily Times

The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club has announced the winners of the October monthly competition in prints.

The print winners for the topic of the month "The Color Red" were Anissa Wellington, first place; Sam Rees, second place; and Barb Sanders, third place.

In the open category, the winners included Chris Horvath, first place; Jennie Hackathorn, second place; and a four-way tie between Taerie Kelly, Steve Roberts, Wellington and Linda Hilty, third place.

The special effects winners were Angela McClain, first place; Debra Snider, second place; and Roberts, third place.

The winners' pictures can be found on Facebook at the Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club page. The slide competition was canceled until the Nov. 19 competition meeting.

From Oct. 7-13, the camera club held its annual photo exhibit at the Fort Steuben Mall. All the winning pictures from the September annual competition were on display as well as many other pictures by club members. In place of the October workshop meeting, club members gathered on an evening during the exhibit to view all the pictures and to vote for a Members' Choice Award photo.

Don Roberts of Wintersville was the winner of that award for his picture of a silhouette of an Amish horse and buggy against a sunset. On the last day of the exhibit, the votes were tallied from guests who attended the exhibit, and Diane Rojak Bannister of Weirton won the People's Choice Award for her photo of a 9-month-old baby in a metal tub of bubbles, outdoors against a backdrop of black-eyed Susans.

October began the new season for the camera club. People of all ages and levels of experience, from beginners through advanced photographers, are welcome to join the club. Members use digital cameras and film cameras. Dues are $20 per person and $25 for a family.

The club offers workshops on various topics, usually on the first Tuesday of every month to help club members improve their skills. Competitions are held on the third Tuesday for prints and slides in three categories, including topic of the month, open and special effects. Though most members use digital cameras, the club would like to also continue the slide competition, in which the slides are taken with film cameras. Anyone who wants to share slides, whether currently taken or taken in the past, is welcome to participate.

The club offers opportunities for members to display their pictures in various photo exhibits. There are picture-taking field trips, an annual picnic and covered-dish dinners. Anyone is welcome to attend meetings free of charge to see what the club has to offer.

Participants must be paid members in order to enter the competitions and participate in exhibits. The club meets at 7 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church hall, off state Route 43, Wintersville.

Because of the election, the workshop meeting has been changed to Nov. 12. The competition meeting will be held Nov. 19. For information about the club, contact Steve Whiting, club president, at (740) 546-4497.
