STEUBENVILLE Black Friday is quickly approaching, and the best way to be prepared for the start of the holiday shopping season is to pick up a copy of Thursday's Thanksgiving Day editions of the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times.
"This edition offers the best shopping value of the whole year," according to John Hale, circulation director of the newspapers.
Traditionally, the Thanksgiving edition is the largest weekday paper of the year, because it is packed with all the best local deals. This year's holiday edition will boast more than 20 sale inserts from local merchants.
A Weirton area mother, Amber Gumtow, said she plans to use the Thanksgiving edition for the deals.
"Last year, I saved a lot by planning my shopping around the fliers in the paper," she said.
Home subscribers are guaranteed to get a copy of Thursday's edition, and copies will be available at many area retail stores. Despite the bigger size, the special price of $1.50 is the same price as previous years. That's a bargain when you consider the hundreds of dollars worth of rebates and deals available.
"It saves me time," Jennifer Etzler of Wintersville said. "I can see which stores are offering sales I'm interested in beforehand, so the Christmas shopping gets done faster."
The Thanksgiving Day editions, which will be distributed Thursday morning, are annually eagerly awaited, according to Ross Gallabrese, executive editor of the newspapers.
"Getting a copy of the newspaper on Thanksgiving morning has become a traditional part of the holiday for the families across our region," Gallabrese explained.
