Area communities will shine brightly

November 25, 2013
Weirton Daily Times

Turkey with all the trimmings, family and friends, are at the forefront of our minds this week, but save some room for twinkling lights and Christmas carols.

Area communities will be aglow during the next few weeks, and children once again will have the chance to see a little piece of holiday magic come to life during light-up nights.

The first of this year's events will be held Tuesday, when Toronto's gazebo commons area will light up beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The evening will feature the lighting of the city's Christmas tree, along with a luminaria ceremony. Proceeds from the sale of luminaria and donations will go to the Salvation Army's home heating assistance program.

Among the other area communities that have scheduled light-up nights, Wellsburg will hold its event Friday on the Wellsburg Town Square following the annual Christmas parade. Free photos with Santa and refreshments will be part of the fun.

And Mingo Junction will hold its light-up event at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 in front of the Municipal Building. The Indian Creek High School Band is scheduled to play holiday tunes, and a candlelight ceremony is planned, according to coordinator Sophie Schoolcraft.

Light-up nights are enjoyable events that bring communities together. They help enhance the feelings of holiday joy for the coming holiday season. And it gives our communities a chance to show off.

Please plan to be a part of the festivities in one or more area communities.
